Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult period, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in specific - caused him exiting of the top ten and finally splitting with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the past month - peaking in a closely contested three-set triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is his initial championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt after March of the previous year.

Victory also means Medvedev has achieved 21 titles at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters together, so to secure a title is particularly special," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, featuring in that event earlier this year.

His defensive approach and frequent reactions on court had prompted some to wonder if his capacity to compete at the elite level was over.

However the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and play aggressively, backed up by an better service.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, securing 4 of the last five games to go ahead.

The pair swapped break points in the following set before the challenger, striving for his initial tour championship, took control to push for a third set.

Moutet defended 4 early-game opportunities in a close final set before the champion secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he secured victory with a rally at the net area, with his opponent unable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
