Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have found a variety of interesting indie games. However, one is particularly notable for its offbeat concept. Named Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game features a character that is truly a turd striving to navigate to a commode. In case you're wondering, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
How you interact is straightforward: press a single jump button. In one hundred fifty levels, encounter mini-bosses and visit a shop to purchase skins for your dung hero.
Plan your movements precisely, since one mistake forces restarting the level. Jump off floating orbs to hurl yourself upward, navigate fragile surfaces, and interact with triggers to reveal new areas. Collect UN-KOINS for buying more difficult levels in which the action intensifies.
In terms of design, the demo features eye-catching stages and an amazing soundtrack. Its minimalist visual style of morphing geometric shapes evokes memories of fans of old favorites like Earthbound.
Although difficult to think of other games where you play as a dung character, interactive entertainment often incorporated toilet humor. For example, in Death Stranding, you can create grenades from protagonist waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as soil enrichment. And of course, this theme is present extensively in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its goofy premise, Unko Technica has already received impressive recognition, like taking top honors at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. The demo is ready now on Steam, with the final release planned to arrive on PC on November 19.
